Lulu Guinness AW2010 Launch

I haven’t organised an event since the time I was working at an events company, but when an opportunity to organise an event for the launch of Lulu Guinness Fall Winter 2010 collection came up, I couldn’t say no.

I forgot how you’d be running on adrenalin pre-event and during the event, and now, I say in an exhausted heap of mess on my bed after sending out post-event emails. Man, do I work hard for my money. I deserve a new pair of shoes! Or two!

Much thanks to Gidania, Vedure Nail Spa [gorgeous place that I will be a regular of henceforth!], the faboo Andrea Claire, the Brownie Boys, the lovely ladies at SOLE 2 SOLE, MINX New York, and the Lulu Guinness London office for all the support!

Now, my article for Singapore Brides beckons. No rest for the wicked! ;o)

Love List #34

* People in music I’ve recently been discovering more and more incredibly talented people in local music, and one person who’ve bowled me over and over again is my friend Vanessa Fernandez. You’ve probably heard her on 98.7FM, and I’ve gone from slaving over projects with her to being her occasional stylist. I still can’t believe she’s not touring the globe and rolling in dough with a voice like that. Seriously! Listen to her acapella Oasis cover and Radiohead’s Creep. A-fucking-mazing.

* Sanrio x Dr Martens A few months ago, before my birthday, I got all excited about the Sanrio x Dr Martens collabo and guess what? The good people at Dr Martens Singapore are bringing the babies in come September! Retailing from $169 onwards, the launch will coincide with Dr Martens’ search for Singapore’s very own Susie Bubble. On 1 Sept from noon to 8pm, come down to Dr Martens at Orchard Central in your Susie Bubble-est outfit, be photographed wearing one of the Sanrio x Dr Martens footwear and stand a chance to walks away with $1,000 worth of Dr. Martens shoes and a feature on Susie Bubble’s blog!

* H&M Words cannot express how much I love H&M. I want to make love to H&M. I want to wrap my lips around the mighty erection that is H&M and suck hard, like a good whore should. This expresses why I love it so.

* Loving Your Job I love what I do for a living – but you know that already. I need to remind myself to be thankful of what I have. I’m looking forward to my shoots, loving all the writing I’m doing and welcoming the stress.

* Power Cue: Bow in the presence of greatness -

* Bigass Giveaway Happening soon – watch this space.

Off to bed, now. What’s on your Love List?

Sneaky Little People

While I’ve a program installed to tell me generic information about the visitors to my blog and I do get a good bunch of voyeurs, I’m often left wondering who the hell reads my blog. Sometimes I get random stares when I’m out and about and I’m left wondering whether my skirt is tucked into my underwear [true story - happened in Amsterdam airport] or that that said person reads my blog.

Today, whilst having dinner with my friend Jeremy, I told him a few things, to which he brushed off saying, “Yes, I know.” And the funny thing is – Jeremy didn’t find out about it first through my blog, he found out about his friends and colleagues who read thedramadiaries. So you sneaky little people, man up and leave a comment – before I start outing you! ;o)

Quotable Monday Quotes

When stopped today in Soho by Jesus freaks I said my religious views were shopping and that I was feeling particularly spiritual today. I guess damnation awaits in my visa bill?

- Devon Tyler Dagworthy [Canadian acquaintance living in NYC]

Have a good week, kitty cats.

Konomono.com

There’s a lot of negativity that’s associated with China-anything. Nobody’s to be blamed, of course, it is the land of the badly dressed, terribly skanky women [not that these types don't exist in Singapore!] and people who spit everywhere. And made-in-China products are not spared – ask anybody in retail and you’d know how much people shun away from anything that has been made in China when in all honesty, everything is made in that part of the world!

Which comes to my point about Konomono.com – an online venture of a friend who lives in Shanghai, proves that all you need is quality control and good taste and you’d find a plethora of very cool pieces you’d want to rock the streets of NYC in. Check these out:

It’s not exactly All Saints or Alexander Wang, but the minimalist, drapey chic feel is always in style – and paired with skyscraper heels, you could almost never go wrong! Plus, the bottoms and the outerwear are pretty cute too. I love the details on the waist of the capris below:

And if you’re fans of the famous Feiyue shoes, Konomono stocks them in two colours and of a variety of sizes! Like Bata shoes – but better! ;o)

It gets better – because you are awesome, Konomono & thedramadiaries have made a deal: from now till the end of August, enter “thedramadiaries” upon checkout and get a whopping 20 percent off your entire order. Now, quit messin’ around, go forth and shop!

Outfit: thedramadiaries STILL loves MySpringFling!

When you live in a climate like Singapore’s, it’s hard not to reach out for light, breezy clothes and myspringfling makes them just right. Just like this number I was wearing on a Saturday afternoon. [Excuse my stupid face, I just got done with my Spanish homework and was heading out in the heat!]

If you’ve noticed, I almost never put my hair up unless I’m working out, but with a back like this, my hair needs to get out of the way:

Bubblegum Ribbon and bows lace blouson courtesy of myspringfling
Petticoat worn as a skirt, American Apparel
Nude sandals, MIA (unseen)
Faux pearl bauble ring, Primark

I was in love with their Anna Sui-inspired Crochet Shirt Dress in the latest collection:

Understated glam with a tinge of sexy – perfect. Now, if my booty could fit into that!

Bitch, Please.

Stop getting your panties in a bunch, it’s only Facebook.

The Universe is Indifferent

The reason you haven’t felt it is because it doesn’t exist. What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons. You’re born alone and you die alone and this world just drops a bunch of rules on top of you to make you forget those facts. But I never forget. I’m living like there’s no tomorrow, because there isn’t one.
- Don Draper

As if I haven’t mentioned this enough, Mad Men is the best show on television. I don’t know why vampire crap is still produced when you have genius like this.

How Did We Get Here?

Whilst having dinner with Nurul yesterday evening, we were left wondering – how the hell did we get here?! Nurul and I have been friends for almost twenty years – that’s a friendship older than a lot of you reading this blog! So while I was humouring my mother tidying up my room for the impending Hari Raya, I chanced upon ancient photos and scanned them. If for nothing else, for laughs.

Like Zoie, I didn’t have much hair as a kid, and my mother usually had me in hats which I’d remove cos’ they were frilly and uncomfortable. This was taken near where the Esplanade now stands, and my Dad’s expression’s and mine cracks me up:

Here I am throwing a tantrum, photographed with my maternal cousins:

Permanently distracted:

With my mum, on my third birthday

And this was a class outing at Fun Dazzle in Downtown East:

Nurul, in the extreme right, might kill me after she sees this and it will be the end of our 18-year friendship. Hah!

Outfit: Another Mad Men Day

For the lack of a romantic partner who’s a photographer, fancy schmancy gadgets or the luxury of time, you have to make do with a photo from my trusty iPhone:

I love this skirt. I got too fat to wear it for a while, but it once again fits nicely – until hopefully, it gets too loose and I need to get it altered. It’s actually a really nice shade of purple, and the photo doesn’t do it any justice.

I love pin-up anything, especially because of my body shape and high-waisted skirt is a less out-there approach to the art of the pin-up and by chance, I spotted a pin-up-esque cover of the gorgeous Christina Hendricks on the cover of GQ UK. Of course, they’ve DI-ed the hell out of her, but girlfriend still looks smokin’:

Like my friend Susie commented on Facebook, “Look at those puppies!”
